On 23 October 2026, Ambassador Yokota attended the closing ceremony of the Productive Economic Inclusion in Lebanon(PEIL)programme, implemented by the René Moawad Foundation (RMF), in partnership with the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs, with support from the World Bank and funding from the Government of Japan through the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF). The ceremony marked the conclusion of an initiative aimed at improving the livelihoods and economic well-being of low-income Lebanese households by promoting productive economic inclusion.

Through a grant of approximately USD 3 million from the JSDF, the project has reached 1,300 low-income households across the targeted areas. Participants received training, productive assets, coaching, and mentoring to enable them to pursue self-employment and develop income-generating activities. At the closing ceremony, Ambassador Yokota highlighted the importance of expanding access to productive economic opportunities and complementing social assistance with pathways towards greater self-reliance, resilience, and dignity. He emphasized that, given the right opportunities and support, people can make meaningful contributions to their households, local economies, and communities. He also expressed hope that the lessons learned from the initiative would inform future efforts to strengthen social protection and advance inclusive economic development across Lebanon. Ambassador Yokota reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to working with Lebanon and its partners to support human potential and promote sustainable livelihood for vulnerable communities.
