On 9 October, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, Ambassador Yokota joined UNESCO and the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE), and  the Centre for Educational Research and Development (CERD) at the Green Demonstration Room in Jounieh to underscore the importance of mental health and well-being in education. Building on the experience and success of last year’s Japan-funded initiative, Japan is once again supporting this year’s activities, which aim to foster the psychosocial, emotional, and social well-being of students and teachers through hands-on environmental activities, music, arts, and green education.

In his remarks, Ambassador Yokota emphasized that promoting the mental health and well-being of students and teachers is an essential foundation for creating safe, supportive, and effective learning environments. He stressed that mental health and psychosocial support require sustained attention, reflecting a holistic approach to care and collective action. The Ambassador also reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to standing alongside Lebanon and its people through cooperation with the Lebanese Government and local and international partners.
