Japan Supports Enhanced Medical Imaging Capacity for Ain Wazein Medical Village in Al Chouf

On 20 August 2026, Mr. YAMADA Yuichi, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Lebanon, signed a Grant Contract under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) to fund the procurement of a motorized digital mobile X-ray unit for Ain Wazein Medical Village hospital in Ain Wazein, Chouf District, Mount Lebanon Governorate.
Since 1978, AWMV has provided free or low-cost medical services to over 400,000 people, including 32,000 Syrian refugees and 17,000 internally displaced persons. The hospital's aging existing mobile X-ray units, introduced in 2003 and 2010, have long exceeded their service life, and the rented analog unit currently in use cannot meet the monthly demand for examinations, leading to diagnostic delays and financial strain.
The new digital mobile X-ray unit will restore reliable imaging capacity across AWMV's emergencies, intensive care, surgery, and ward departments, directly benefiting vulnerable patients while reducing rental costs and enhancing the sustainability of the hospital's services. At the signing, Mr. YAMADA reaffirmed Japan's commitment to Lebanon's healthcare sector, and Mr. Akram Saab, Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Health Establishment of the Druze Community (HEDC), expressed gratitude for Japan's support amid the ongoing economic crisis on behalf of AWMV.
