On 26 May 2026, Ambassador Kenji Yokota attended a ceremony marking the completion of Japan-supported expansion work at the Ministry of Public Health's central medical supplies warehouse in Karantina, Beirut, together with representatives of the Ministry of Public Health and the World Health Organization (WHO). The expansion was carried out through WHO with support from Japan under its FY2024 funding project entitled “Emergency Strengthening of the Healthcare System at Public Hospitals in Lebanon in Response to South Border Escalations.”

The upgraded facility aims to enhance storage capacity and supply chain management, while supporting hospitals with more reliable and efficient logistics for essential medical supplies.  It represents a concrete step forward in enhancing Lebanon's health sector capacity, contributing to stronger preparedness and improved readiness within essential public health services.

In addition to the expansion of the medical supplies warehouse, the project also included the deployment of the Logistics Management System (LMS) in 10 public hospitals, the upgrading of hospital blood banks, the provision of equipment, and training for healthcare personnel, as part of Japan’s broader support for the health sector. This project reflects Japan's longstanding commitment to human security, placing the protection of lives and dignity at the center of its cooperation with Lebanon. It also forms part of Japan’s support for advancing universal health coverage (UHC) in Lebanon.

In the context of evolving security conditions and rising humanitarian needs, continued investment in health infrastructure and institutional capacity remains essential to ensuring that key services remain resilient and responsive to all communities. Japan will continue to support Lebanon on its path towards long-term recovery and stability.
