On 12 February 2026, Ambassador YOKOTA Kenji attended the completion ceremony of a project implemented by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) in partnership with the Lebanese Association for Family Health, SALAMA, in the Bekaa Valley.

This initiative strengthened access to essential sexual and reproductive health services for vulnerable and crisis-affected communities in Bekaa. Since 2017, medical and support services—including the establishment and operation of clinics, mobile clinics, and awareness-raising activities—have been delivered through three successive projects supported by the Government of Japan.  Under the third project, families affected by displacement, economic hardship, or social instability received medical care, counseling, and tailored support. The project, rooted in Japan’s Human Security policy, aims to protect fundamental rights, empower individuals, and ensure that no one is left behind.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Yokota emphasized that in times of crisis, women, children, and displaced persons are often the most severely affected. He underscored that protecting sexual and reproductive health and rights extends beyond medical care; it is about safeguarding the fundamental right to live with dignity. The Ambassador also reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to standing with Lebanon on its path toward recovery, stability, and enhanced human security.
