On 12 November 2025, Ambassador MAGOSHI Masayuki delivered opening remarks the El Sistema Lebanon concert, organised as an official side event to the UNESCO Regional Seminar on Education in Emergencies (EiE) in the Arab Region, held in Beirut. The concert brought together young musicians from across Lebanon, showcasing the powerful role of music in fostering hope, resilience, and emotional well-being among children and youth affected by crises.
Ambassador Magoshi expressed his appreciation to the young performers, educators, and partners for demonstrating how cultural and psychosocial activities can support children’s well-being and complement education efforts in times of crisis. He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to protecting learning for all children, stating:
“Japan believes that education in emergencies is essential to protect learning, dignity, and hope — even in the most difficult circumstances, and this lies at the heart of Japan’s human security approach.”

Earlier the same day, Ms. ITO Ayako, First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan, served as a panelist in the session “Partner Dialogue: Financing Resilient Education Systems in Times of Crisis in the Arab Region” during the UNESCO Regional Seminar. She underscored Japan’s sustained support to the global education sector, referencing Japan’s pledge of 1.5 billion US dollars over five years from 2021, announced at the Transforming Education Summit (TES), including continued contributions to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and investments in human resources development.
Ms. Ito highlighted the importance of a human security approach, the protection and well-being of teachers and learners, and stronger coordination among education partners to ensure a coherent and effective EiE response across the region. She reaffirmed Japan’s readiness to work closely with UNESCO, Lebanese authorities, and local partners to strengthen EiE programming, promote child well-being, and expand access to quality learning and psychosocial support for Lebanon’s children.
