2022/11/23
On November 21, Ambassador Okubo revisited the Animal and Plant Quarantine Centre in the Port of Beirut together with the Minister of Agriculture and the Country Director of WFP. The Centre was recently reconstructed and equipped to monitor the safety and quality of imported and exported foods and products with funding from Japan, through the World Food Program after the tragic August 4 explosion.
During the tour, Ambassador Okubo was briefed on the sampling and certifying mechanism carried out by the Centre, and its overall operations. This Japanese assistance greatly supports to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture after the explosion. Japan continues to support Lebanon in achieving national food safety and security and its socio-economic recovery.
