Japan expands its support for sanitary pads factories in Lebanon through UN Women
2022/10/31
On October 28, Ambassador Okubo participated in a ceremony held at a factory for the manufacturing of affordable sanitary pads in Tripoli, funded by Japan through UN Women, to celebrate its provision with a solar energy system as part of a recent grant aimed at enhancing the factory’s productivity amid the electricity crisis.
Following the positive impact that this pilot initiative has had on the women and the local community in Tripoli, Japan has decided to replicate it in Beirut, and Saida, by setting up two additional factories, running on renewable energy, to combat “period poverty” on a larger scale, empower women through employment opportunities, and contribute to the development of the economy.
