Japan Supports Reconstruction and Recovery Efforts in Beirut following the Port’s Explosion
2022/9/8
On September 7, Ambassador Okubo participated in a ceremony that marked the completion of works in a project funded by a grant from Japan through the UNHabitat, and which helped rehabilitate some of the areas of Beirut that were heavily impacted by the tragic August 4 explosion. This initiative gave safe access to residential buildings and public spaces for the affected population, and rehabilitated the Beirut Fire Brigade Centre in Karantina.
Following the explosion, Japan was among the first responders to extend its support to Lebanon, by adopting a comprehensive approach to provide aid in several vital sectors such as health and food security. Today, Japan is still committed to alleviate the burden of hardships of the most vulnerable communities across the country, and to assist Lebanon in its recovery.
