On June 16, Ambassador Okubo participated in the inauguration ceremony of  The new Animal and Plant Quarantine Centre in the Port of Beirut, that was reconstructed under a grant from Japan, through the World Food Program.

This project came in response to the destruction of the initial centre during the devastating Port explosion on August 4, 2020, following which Japan intensified its support to Lebanon to help alleviate the repercussions of the tragedy on the Lebanese people and the vital sectors of the country. This initiative will help strengthen the national supervision over the quality and safety of exported and imported foodstuff, a key pillar to enhancing national food security and driving the economic wheel.
