2022/3/11

On 11 March 2011, 11 years ago, a big earthquake struck Tohoku – Japan. Japan faced a compound problem of Tsunami and the accident of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. The death toll came to 19,747 (including deaths related to the disaster) and 2,556 people remain missing. Over the past 11 years, we have reconstructed almost all damaged infrastructure and stabilized the condition of Fukushima Nuclear Power Station. While Lebanon is facing difficult situation especially after the Beirut Port explosion in 4 August 2020.

Just a few days ago, I am pleased that we hold the symposium titled “Japan and Lebanon: Trajectories of Reconstruction” in collaboration with Issam Fares Institute of American University in Beirut. On this opportunity, the panelists from both countries reviewed the experience and compared the reconstruction process. It is my pleasure that the Japanese knowledge of reconstruction and disaster prevention will be useful for Lebanon and will lead Lebanon to recover its stability and prosperity.

I am determined to continue my contribution to strengthen the relation between Japan and Lebanon in the various fields
