As part of its continuous assistance to Lebanon, the Government of Japan provided $800,000 USD for the project of “Social Stabilization through Comprehensive Agricultural Support for Refugee Host Communities in Lebanon”, implemented by the UNDP. The project was in collaboration with The Ministry of Energy and Water, The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), The Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute (LARI) and the Municipality of Qabb Elias.

On the occasion of the conclusion of the project, on June 27 2019, H.E. Mr. Matahiro Yamaguchi, Ambassador of Japan to Lebanon, attended an inauguration ceremony in Qabb Elias. The project aimed to boost the productivity of local farmers and reduce water wastage through the rehabilitation of irrigation canals. The project also supported the farmers through a capacity building program that helped improve their farming techniques.
