Japan Supports HI and Municipality of Sohmor

The Embassy of Japan funds HI demining operations in North Lebanon & the installation of a water tank in the village of Sohmor in West Beqaa.

On February 5 2018, H.E. Mr. Matahiro Yamaguchi, Ambassador of Japan to Lebanon signed a grant contract with Mrs. Caroline Duconseille, Head of Mission of HI, in the presence of Brigadier General Ziad Nasr, Director of Lebanon Mine Action Center (LMAC). With a grant of USD 600,999, this project will benefit around 35,100 people living around the contaminated areas in Batroun, Koura, and Bsharre in North Lebanon, which will be used for agricultural and residential purposes.

On the same day, Ambassador Yamguchi concluded a grant contract with Mr. Mohamed Al Kechen, Mayor of the Municipality of Sohmor in West Beqaa. The Government of Japan provides up to USD 88,730 to fund the installation of a water tank that will provide clear water to around 1,000 residents and Syrian refugees.
