The Ambassador of Japan hosts Palestine refugee female graduates, recipients of Japanese scholarships
(27 October 2009)

The Ambassador of Japan in Lebanon H.E. Mr. Koichi Kawakami hosted a lunch at his residence on 27 October 2009 for seven Palestinian female students who graduated in Sciences and Business Administration thanks to scholarships from the Government of Japan.
The Japanese government donated in June 2004 US$ 100,000 to cover the scholarships for the seven students. The students had the opportunity to pursue higher education at universities in Lebanon, to help them increase their chances of better employment opportunities in the future. The scholarships covered the university tuition fees in full, as well as other education related expenses. Through savings incurred, three additional students will be sponsored for the coming academic year 2009/2010.
The Government of Japan has donated generously approximately US$ 580,000 to the Agency for scholarships since 2004. The Government of Japan has also contributed generously to the Agency’s appeals and donated US$ 6,531,257 in total to Nahr el-Bared camp emergency (Flash Appeal and Emergency Appeal), in addition to its US$ 450,000 contribution to the Camp Improvement Initiative in 2007.
