

Ambassador of Japan to Lebanon, Mr. Yoshihisa Kuroda, inaugurated on Sunday December 16, in the village of Assia, Batroun, a recently completed water project that was financed by the government of Japan through its Grassroots Grants Programme and implemented by the municipality of the village.
The US$81,200-project was implemented in accordance with a contract signed by the Embassy of Japan and the municipality of Assia on September 27, 2004 and consisted of constructing a 200m3 reservoir in order to secure a better water supply to the village and solve water shortage problems.
Japan’s Grassroots Grants Program has so far extended more than US$ 7.6 Million since 1996 to finance development projects throughout Lebanon proposed and implemented by municipalities, NGOs, hospitals, private schools, research institutes, and other non-profit organizations.
