Japan finances beekeeping training course

Ambassador of Japan to Lebanon Mr. Tokumitsu Murakami attended WEdnesday, November 9, 2005, a graduation ceremony held at the Makhzoumi Foundation training center in Baalbeck, Beqaa, to celebrate the completion of a training course on basic beekeeping skills implemented by Makhzoumi Foundation and financed by Japan's Grassroots Grants Program.

The training course is part of a US$ 83,111 project, which, in addition to teaching basic beekeeping skills to 140 women from seven villages of Beqaa and southern Lebanon, consisted of providing them with hives and other equipment that are necessary to start a small honey production business.

Government of Japan's Grassroots Grant Program has so far extended a total of approximately US$ 6.5 Million to Lebanon through the Japanese Embassy since 1996. The Program provides financial assistance to municipalities, NGOs, hospitals, private schools, research institutes, and other non-profit organizations to implement flexible and timely development projects at the grassroots level.
