Japanese Spring Festival for Children at the Japanese Ambassador’s Residence
Japanese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Otsuka hosted an event at his residence for children with special needs on 27 March 2015. The event was organized to introduce Japanese traditional festivals for children such as Dolls Festival (3rd of March) for girls and Children’s Day (5th of May) for boys, both of which are jubilant yearly occasions for Japanese people to wish for their children’s growth and happiness.
During the event, children played with Japanese traditional toys such as “kendama”(known as “billeboquet” in Lebanon) and “origami”(paper folding). During the “Origami” session, Children enjoyed making “Kabuto” (Samurai Helmets) with newspapers, which many kids make on Children’s Day in Japan.
Children with various handicaps attended the event. They were from four different associations: “Sidon Orphan Welfare Society”, “Sesobel”, “Dr. Mohamed Khaled Social Foundations” and “Al Hadi Institute for Deaf, Blind and Learning Disabilities”. All of the associations were partners of the Japanese Embassy to implement Grassroots Grant Projects in the past.
