Friday 21 November, 2014 - The Ambassador of Japan to Lebanon, H.E. Seichii Otsuka visited the project site of Mines Advisory Group (MAG) in Zawtar Al Gharbiyyeh, few kilometers south of Nabatiyyeh. MAG is a non-profit international organization clearing landmines, unexploded ordnances (UXOs) and other remnants of conflict for the benefit of the communities in Lebanon.

Through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), the Government of Japan funded 51 new detectors in order to accelerate the clearance activities in Southern Lebanon. The project aimed at increasing the efficiency and the safety of Battle Area Clearance in the heavily contaminated area. The project is also intended to improve the socioeconomic conditions of the local communities. We expect that over 36,000 people will benefit from UXO clearance, which will allow them to have safe access to the land and to support the socioeconomic development and recovery in Southern Lebanon.
